Recipe for a dream kitchen: a dash of style, a pinch of flair, and a room full of state-of the-art appliances.

The appliances in the NHI Dream Home kitchen were provided by Lab Distributing of Raleigh, who secured them from HADCO, a regional distributor of specialty products for the home.

The Thermador 48-inch refrigerator-freezer in stainless steel was chosen because of its quality and spaciousness. It features a filtered water system in the door, adjustable glass shelves and integrated gallon drawer storage. There are three drawers for produce in the fresh-food side and two baskets in the bottom of the freezer. The drawers are humidity sealed. “This refrigerator is actually fairly new,” says Cindy Street, a sales representative at Lab Distributing. “You can choose the professional handles or a more sleek look which is featured in the NHI Dream Home.” The stainless steel finish is not only attractive but it’s practical as well. Unlike stainless steel appliances of the past, this finish is not prone to show fingerprints and smudges.

Not to be outdone by the refrigerator, the kitchen features two high-tech Bosch dishwashers with integrated controls and premium racks. “With an integrated dishwasher, the controls are on the top of the dishwasher, you don’t see any of the controls until you open the door,” explains Street. But the advanced design doesn’t stop there. The dishwasher has five program settings— normal, power scrub plus, delicate, economy cycle and quick wash. “It’s very efficient and quiet,” says Street. The silence rating is a quiet 48-decibles. “Overall, it has great wash performance and ends up saving you money [in electricity] in the long run.”

But no kitchen is complete without an oven and this one features two 30-inch, self-cleaning ovens by Thermador. There is a standard oven and a fast cooking convection oven. “It has double convection, a third element in the rear of the oven with a fan that circulates heat throughout the oven in a constant motion,” says Street. “It provides even cooking and baking, seals in juices in meat and the cook time is less; it has extra capacity; it can accommodate six baking racks at one time ”

Topping off the list of gourmet appliances is a set of 24-inch Thermador warming drawers. Tucked underneath the cooktop, the drawers have four settings: low, medium, high and proof mode. There is also a microwave oven installed as a wall unit.

But the true appliance centerpiece of the room is the Thermador 48-inch professional gas cooktop. The gas cooktop has six star-shaped burners with an output ranging from 375 BTUs for the low simmer setting to 15,000 BTUs for high. “The two left-hand burners will reach a low simmer setting good for sauces and soups and it won’t scorch the bottom of the pan. It’s set at 140 degrees,” says Street.

The cooktop also features a Titanium griddle. “I love the griddle,” says Pat Cashman, head decorator for the project, “You can whip up pancakes or omelets for breakfast.” The titanium griddle is nonstick and Street points out that it is a lot nicer than stainless steel because it’s easier to clean. “You can actually take it out and put it in the dishwasher,” says Street.

And topping off the list of gourmet appliances is a set of 24-inch Thermador warming drawers. Tucked underneath the cooktop, the drawers have four settings: low, medium, high and proof mode. “Proof mode is for making bread. It’s a good place to put your dough to rise,” says Street.

Stainless steel finishes. State-of-the-art features. Innovative design. Is it any wonder that the NHI Dream Home kitchen is a recipe for success?
