That’s just what head decorator Pat Cashman wanted. Fresh from a trip to Las Vegas to look at houses for inspiration, Cashman met with McAlister and shared her vision of a Mediterranean, Southwest decor for the home. The kitchen was where Cashman started when she began designing the home. “I was waiting for her to get back from her Las Vegas trip and she had all these photographs and books,” McAlister recalled. “It helped to inspire the design of the Southwest theme of the valance of the niches.” McAlister showed Cashman Cabico cabinets in the Kitchen and Bath Galleries showroom and she was sold. Cabico cabinets are custom designed and are of an especially fine quality. They come in a variety of colors and woods. McAlister said the detailing on the cabinets—the two-toned effect—complements the stucco hood above the cooktop. The Cabico cabinets, a full custom product line, are accented with a black stain on the center island and along the two back walls in the kitchen. The antique glass doors are framed in the black stain against the mushroom. The cabinets are built with display niches for decorative items and are framed around a pantry for extra storage on one wall. Urns in creams and earth tones fill the niches. There is a television above the double ovens, a nod to the pivotal role the kitchen plays in many homes. “The more neutral colors that were selected in the cabinetry blend beautifully with the granite countertops and allows the main focal point to be the hood, which is gorgeous," said McAlister. McAlister has been designing for about 23 years while Kitchen and Bath Galleries, owned by Steve Vaughn, has been in business seven and a half years. Its main location is in Raleigh, but it has divisions in Cary, Durham, Southern Pines and Wilmington.
“Besides the word beautiful,” said builder Rex Bost of the
kitchen, “it’s perfect for the trends in housing today. It’s open and
inviting.” And the cabinets just glow, creating a warm and welcome space
for all the traffic that a modern kitchen sees" ▪
