VIS-A-VIS

After 14 years as a stylist at one of Atlanta's top salons, Jeffrey McQuithy wanted a place of his own focused on an unparalleled salon experience. "I looked at everything I didn't like about the industry and made changes in terms of service and etiquette to offer the finest amenities," he explained. The result was Vis-A-Vis, a luxurious salon that's truly face to face, person-to-person.

For clients, the experience begins when they are greeted by a valet who escorts them to the front desk. Along with each hair cut, clients receive a complimentary head, neck and shoulder massage. Lavender scented towels encase wet heads, prolonging the luxurious experience. Coffee is served in fine china and cold drinks appear on a silver tray. Complimentary make up touchups are offered after each service. Clients can even have their cars detailed while they're inside.

To turn his dream into reality, McQuithy's began by tearing down an existing structure and building from the ground up. He enlisted architect Herbert Brito to design the building, a combination of cedar shake and snow white columns. "Though new, the building was intended to look established, where Greek revival meets southern flair," he explains. The warm, welcoming salon features Knoll furnishings and a soothing décor. Instead of photos of the latest hair styles lining the wall, Vis-A-Vis exhibits revolving artwork from local galleries. "It gives clients something more interesting and unexpected to look at while they are here," he says.

At the heart of every salon is the quality of the services provided. With 16 established stylists and two make up artists, Vis-A-Vis offers everything from hair cuts and coloring to facial waxing services as well. Recent additions to the repertoire include hair extensions, the very latest in beauty enhancements. "Hair extensions last from three to five months." Best of all, using the latest techniques, the process is seamless.

McQuithy hand-picked stylists whom he calls "the most sought after in Atlanta." But to become part of his concept, they also need warm personalities. "Having a pleasing personality is as important as knowing how to do hair," he says. "My stylists are very professional but we have no superstars or ego here. Our focus is on the customer."
