WILLIAM DAVID SALON

Tucked inside a vintage 1940s cottage off State Bridge Road, the William David Salon is a hidden jewel. In the course of a year, it has become known as one of Alpharetta's leading salons.

"Our philosophy on business sets us apart," says William Murphy, stylist and owner. "We provide a quality product and exceptional customer service delivered with integrity geared to what our clients need and have come to expect." Murphy and his staff emphasize giving back to the community that has welcomed them. A recent Cut-A-Thon helped raise $28,500 for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The salon also made a significant donation of L'Oréal products to the residents of Jerusalem House, a residential facility for homeless people with HIV/AIDS. Another event conducted in conjunction with nearby Pampas Steakhouse raised funds for Hurricane Katrina victims. "We want to give back to the community that's been so good to us," he says.

William David Salon hosts numerous social evenings that add pizzazz to routine haircuts. The second Saturday of the month, William David Salon hits Midtown at Sutra Lounge with "Beauty and the Beat". Guests mingle with the stylists who will "blow them away" or "curl them up" at Sutra. And on the last Thursday of every month, the salon celebrates "Cut with a Twist," a girls-night-out martini evening. "We partner with Pampas Steakhouse and after a haircut and martini, clients saunter to the restaurant for a delicious meal," says Murphy.

Murphy's passion for the business began more than twenty years ago and continues to grow with the opening of William David Salon just over a year ago. "I've spanned the globe, worked for major design houses and worked fashion week in New York," he says. "But I was looking for a home base where I could offer the kind of service I would demand." Murphy continues to hone his skills and is always looking forward while honoring his roots. He encourages his team of stylists to take advantage of training seminars across the country so that their clients remain on the cutting edge of style and color.

With antique furnishings, sconces and chandeliers, original mahogany floors, separate color and haircut rooms united with the vaulted ceiling of the structure, Murphy has been able to bring his vision to reality. "I work with a talented, driven, career-minded group," he says. "You feel the energy as soon as you walk in the door. We put the 'service' in customer service," he says.

Whether working with a celebrity client or first-time customer, Murphy relishes the unique opportunity to bring about positive change. "It's about much more than just a haircut," he says. "I have an opportunity to help others recreate themselves and achieve their goals. It's a wonderful gift to be able to help people feel better about themselves."

Along with a passion for the salon business, Murphy brings similar commitment to his private life. He playfully confesses that he is addicted to his daily workouts at the gym and rarely misses a day and loves riding his custom Harley Chopper.

He and his wife Michele settled in Atlanta eight years ago after traveling the globe. With a 5-year old son, Vincent, and another child due at the end of March, it was the perfect decision. "I always wanted to be an active participant in my family," he says. "Now I have that opportunity."
